Launching a new restaurant

A local eatery required new branding to support a pivot to a more casual, approachable experience

The most successful restaurants support their communities. As the community evolves, so to does the restaurant. Years ago, The Townshend restaurant opened and quickly became a special event destination for its patrons. As the surrounding area changed, ownership wanted a more casual experience for its customers. Less special occasion meals, more neighborhood vibes. Less fancy artwork, more comfortable space. Finally, the price point would reduce to support customers that might visit more often.

Through discussions with restaurant group leadership, the team settled on Dotty’s Kitchen & Raw Bar. With the name reflecting the casual feeling, the branding had to match. We worked through several rounds of explorations and enhancements and consistently returned to a typeface with an older feel and a swooping descender.

Similarly, the menu needed to pair with the logo to create an approachable, legible layout. It also doubles as a placemat.
